PingMeter: A Simple Graphical Interface to PING Command
PingMeter is a free utility and tool application developed by Enrico Pivato for Android devices. It offers a graphical interface to PING command, a network diagnostic tool, with fun and useful sound effects.
One of the best features of PingMeter is that it runs in the background, allowing you to switch to other apps while it runs. This means you can check and test the WiFi coverage on a big room without staring at the screen. Every lost packet will be immediately identified by sound, so you no longer need to check icmp_seq number by number.
Additionally, while ping is running, you can see the PING WEATHER on the top right, which suggests the number of packets lost. For example, a clear sun indicates 0 packets lost, while a storm indicates no good network connection.
It's worth noting that PingMeter depends on the ping command on your phone, which must be executable to allow PingMeter to run. Usually, there is no problem, and no user action is required. However, some vendors or Android releases could disable ping to normal users (non-root), which is not due to PingMeter, and it can't resolve the limitation.
PingMeter has been tested on HTC Desire 2.2 (no root), Nexus S stock, CM7, and CM9.
